Are garden offices worth it?

Are they expensive to run and heat?

We could fit a decent sized one without taking up too much of the garden but I don't see much feedback anywhere with regards to the cost of heating, lighting etc.

TIA

Should have said; we have a box room which we could use for office not we are not entirely stuck.

But it's quite small and would better suited as a walk in wardrobe or for general storage

I love mine! But garden offices are not insulated to the same standards as a house so do get cold in winter and hot in summer.

I have a small heater on a timer which doesn’t cost much to run, and a fan for the few days a year it gets too hot.

Depends on how you insulate it, how you heat it etc. I would contact a few suppliers and ask.

I love mine and would find it much more difficult to wfh without it. Agree with the poster above that they are not insulated in the same way as homes. I have a heater for the winter and have just saved up for air con for the hot summers we now have which is lovely.

Would a conservatory extension work for you OP? My neighbour has just had a fabulous one built just to use as an office. It looks really great and would (I suspect) be better in winter as it's got radiators, and in summer all the windows can be open and they've had a ceiling fan built in.

No idea on how the building costs compare with a garden office though.

our garden office is super insulated so is very comfortable in summer and winter. it has oil wall mounted radiator in. it doesn't cost very much to run. we had a meter put in to record the electric so it can be claimed as an expense.

one of the best things we built at our house.

What nonsense. My garden room is better insulated than the house. 100mm PIR and it’s toasty in the winter with minimal use of the small heater we have in there. In short, no regrets building mine. I use it as a gym and a games / tv / karaoke and party room throughout the year. Great to have somewhere at the bottom of the garden where you can make as much noise as you want without bothering the neighbours. Costs absolute pennies to run - have the small heater on for a couple of weeks of the year when really cold, but otherwise nothing.
