Losing my mind - meant to be exchanging!

Looking for any advice on how to deal with the crappy online conveyancers that the likes of purplebricks use.

My vendor is sadly using one of these, and we had hoped to exchange yesterday. Heard nothing from their solicitor to confirm we can exchange, and is not answering calls or emails.

I've had 6 months of this and am quite frankly fed up

That's sucks, but it won't be today now. I believe you have to exchange by 2pm to allow time for the money to be distributed

I have no idea. You have my sympathies, i got so frustrated when i moved i told them i wasn't moving after x date until 6 weeks after an operation (it suddenly got them moving). Dc just buying 1st home and I told dc not to go with an online one. It got me thinking about when I sell I wonder if you could refuse to sell unless they use a high street conveyancer?

There was a thread on here about a week ago whereby the seller and their agent were basically ridiculing the buyer for their use of an online agent, trying to bully her into using a local one, and being really rather ridiculous about the whole thing.

She pulled out. They'd been recommended by two friends of hers and she (and a lot of the posters) didn't like the tone of the seller and their agent.

So, if you do decide to dictate who your buyers use, my advice would be to proceed with caution.

We exchanged at 4:45 according to the email from my solicitor. I don’t know if the bottom of the chain did so at 2pm, though. They might have.

You could try calling switchboard and ask to speak to their manager.

mybeautifulhorse · 14/08/2024 16:26

I used one of these online places when I bought my house, there was no chain - I was renting and buying a new build - and it was STILL an utter shambles. It was one of those new build situations where everyone in the street moved in on the same day and I was the only one still sitting in my rented flat at 4pm. It did all go through in the end but was a mess.

No advice really except to get onto their switchboard and keep ringing.

We threatened to withdraw if we hadn't exchanged by 4pm. Managed it at 3.55. We weren't bluffing though.
