Selling my house. What colour should I paint the walls? White?

I'll be putting my Victorian house on the market soon. All the walls are dirty so need repainting in a neutral colour. White is the cheapest. Would that be okay or would another neutral be better? I have plenty of colourful furnishings and art.
Thanks.

I don't want to use an expensive paint brand.

We’ve just painted our living in Timeless by Dulux. I’m really pleased it’s nice to have a contrast with the white paintwork and’s fireplace. It’s a neutral off white with no yellow undertones.

Leyland trade contract paint

If you buy really cheap paint, you just have to do more coats so it takes longer and ends up using more paint. It is more economical to get something mid range so at least you only need one or maybe 2 coats maximum.

White is as good as anything in the circumstances. Gives a buyer a nice base to add any colour they prefer on top.

It depends on which way your house faces. White doesn't work in my Victorian at all. She is a high maintenance girl that needs something with a bit more oomph.

Are you painting it yourself or hiring a painter ?

I love white walls - so I think your plan is a good one.

Also, I know from my extensive browsing of interiors magazines, that it's a good idea, when moving to a new home, to paint the walls white so you get an idea of the light before you make decisions about colours. So, if any potential buyers seem a bit iffy about white walls you can let them know that you've done all the prep for them!

Valspar paint from B and Q is good

Thanks very much for all the advice. Very helpful. I'll do some rooms myself and pay someone to do the high stuff like the hallway and stairs. Sounds like white will be okay but I'll check out the other suggestions too.

White is fine as long as there's plenty of other features that make it memorable. Otherwise people forget about you as they house hunt.
