L3 Property survey quotes

First time buying a period property, so haven't had a L3 survey done before. Contacted a couple of local surveyors for quotes, which were around the £1800-£2000 mark. I've since used a comparison site and the quotes are all around the £700 mark, but none of them are remotely near my location - should I be wary?

Where are you? I am in the North, and was quoted £900 last month by a company I had previously used for a L2.

I'm in the SW.

I didn’t know there was a comparison site for them.

I usually put my postcode into the RICs website and contact the first five directly for a quote. Then at least you know they are chartered surveyors.

The south will always be more expensive but I would expect those sorts of prices in the South East, not the West.

Ahh, thank you - just tried that and found local surveyors quoting £900 which is more like I was expecting.

It depends on the cost of the house too. I paid £650 for a L3 survey on a 2 bed, £400k house (in London) in 2020. Though no doubt prices have gone up since then.
