Flooring in upstairs living room

We are buying a townhouse where the living room is on the first floor. The flooring throughout the house will need replacing, and I am not sure what would work in the living room. I have only lived in Victorian houses with wood/LVT/laminate flooring in the living room and I wouldn't particularly choose carpet but I am not sure if hard flooring would look odd in an upstairs room?

Currently they have LVT downstairs (kitchen diner), and carpet on stairs, landings, first floor living room and bedroom, and second floor bedrooms. It's an early 2000s build so no nice floorboards hiding I would think.

Does anyone have any good ideas?

I live in a house like you describe and I have carpet in the living room because I felt that it would flow with the rest of the upstairs.
