Structural engineer report vs homebuyers survey

My lender has asked for a structural engineer report due to cracking. I’m not concerned about this and am fairly confident it will come back as not something effecting the structural integrity. I wasn’t expecting to pay out £500 for this but was planning to get a homebuyers survey done. Should I still get the survey or is the structural report a good alternative? Do they look at similar things?

Completely different. A structural survey is only going to look at the structure itself, and probably only on the bits of concern. A normal survey (assuming you get the higher level one and not the basic drive-by valuation) will check a lot more, such as external drainage being clear, check for woodworm in the loft (if accessible), damp readings on walls, etc.
