How long do we have left in our privately rented flat? Our contract says it’s two months notice period (copying the text in at the end of this post).
We got an email from our building manager “termination of tenancy” and it says this:
“We are writing in relation to your tenancy at [address].
The landlord is planning a full-scale refurbishment of the building and, as a result, will require vacant possession of all units.
The landlord's notice to terminate your tenancy will follow in due course and will be in line with the terms of your tenancy agreement. However, if you are able to vacate sooner, we would accept termination at the earliest possible date.
Please acknowledge receipt of this email by replying and keep us updated.”
Was this an official end of tenancy notification that triggers the notice period, or is this just a heads up and we should be getting an official one any day now?
This is what is said about the notice period (why we think we get 2 months notice…)
Break Clause
If the Landlord or the Tenant wishes to terminate this agreement after 6 months and shall give to the other party on the due date for payment of the rent not less than 2 months notice in writing to this effect then upon the expiry of such notice the Term shall immediately cease or determine but without prejudice to any right of remedy of the Landlord against the Tenant in respect of any antecedent claim or breach of covenant.
any advice is greatly appreciated!
