Just starting planning our bathroom remodelling and we have lived for 20 years with a bathroom that is head to toe white and grey marble- i know its a current trend but we really need to step away from it!!
Was thinking of going for on of the crittall style walk in showers and looking for ideas on what tiles to do with this. I was thinking a heringbone style plate green metro shape tile but eually appreciate having larger tiles night be a good idea as less grouting and would probably go a neutral shade. Looking at contemporary ideas possibly slightly industrial!
Any ideas welcome
Pic attached of the sort of shower enclosure - in a hard wayer area are black fittings a nightmare?

I feel it may date quite quickly, like grey window frames.

But if you like it then that's fine.
I doubt you'll be inviting me round to use it anyway. (But if you did I'm too polite to say I don't really like your shower.)

If you are in a hard water area, just walk away from the black. You will be cleaning it daily to stop limescale. It will drive you absolutely bonkers I promise you. I did warn a local friend of this and she ended up ripping it out after 2 years as it was a nightmare and even with all her cleaning it looked shit after 2 years.

Avoid white metro tiles unless you want it to look like a prison or public toilet.

Pale/dusky pink goes well with black and would look lovely.

TheHuntSyndicate · 27/07/2024 15:11

Like this but choose a different white tile unless of course you like metro tiles. I don't.

I like the overall look of this bathroom. It's small but looks spacious.

It looks nice but you will be constantly cleaning it! I have a black sink and I have to wipe it all the time, drives me mad

LightFull · 27/07/2024 15:18

Black or anything dark shows up all the limescale and water drops

Nightmare to clean

Phineyj · 27/07/2024 15:28

Yep, will show all soap etc.

Used to have one in the 70s+

thanks everyone - that’s what I thought with black / were london so water is hard !!
we are not considering white metro tiles was thinking metro as in rectangle shape in a colour and laid herringbone style
will rethink !

I've had my black fittings and floor tiles for about a year now. They don't look too bad - I'm in a hard water area but I do have a water softener.

I have a dark charcoal tray and black shower like that in pic but without the squares
and green retro tiles with black grout !
Again hard water area I have no problem with limescale actually ! Which is quite surprising !! X

You won't be able to see spiders on it. Therefore you'll merrily go into the shower and then before you turn the water on feel it on your foot. Before you can react, it's on your face trying to suck your brain out of your nose (probably)

Mosaic123 · 27/07/2024 19:08

😱 invisible spiders!

mrssunshinexxx · 27/07/2024 19:10

What about mermaids board ?

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 27/07/2024 19:11

I know everyone is into fully-tiled everything these days, but I moved into a house with a fully tiled bathroom and it's like showering in a public urinal, plus impossible to change the decor. No walls to paint or paper so I am stuck with the previous owner's taste in colour unless I want to rip out ALL the tiling.

OTOH it sounds brilliant when I sing.

Any chance of having a water softener fitted? We live in a hard water area and limescale was a daily nightmare. Still is for our kettle, as the kitchen tap has to bypass a water softener. But the rest of the house, after our softener was put in, well, you would not believe the difference! We had a new bathroom fitted at the same time as the water softener, 6 years ago now, and it looks as good as the day it was fitted.

We like black and dark colours so recently had our bathroom done with a white suite, charcoal vinyl floor tiles, black mermaid board/wall panels, black sink vanity and a black edged shower screen. I love it, so far it is cleaning up easy, does need a white over to get rid of water spots after a shower but we were expecting that and it's a quick and easy job. We have a squeegee thing next to the shower screen so just squeegee it before getting out, it takes a few seconds.
