Moving to Amersham

Hi Mumsnet,

My husband and I are looking to move from London to Amersham, as we're expecting our first child together. Our budget is 525k-550k, and if possible, we're looking for a three bedroom house. My husband will be travelling into London, so we would like to be a mile from the station. It looks like a very pricey area, but can anyone recommend a few family friendly streets in Amersham and any roads to avoid within our price range?

Any help would be hugely appreciated!

Many thanks,

Emily

I think so close to the station you will struggle on that budget. Have you considered Chesham? Not as pricey and also has a tube station.

Agree with French above, Chesham would offer you more space. I considered it once but wasn’t keen on the area.

Amersham is v pricey and don’t get me started on the HS2 works. Genuinely breaks my heart what they’ve done to the countryside along that whole corridor. Letting that go though…

If he doesn’t mind a slightly longer commute on the Marylebone train, Wendover is just under an hour and is still a charming little town. Your money would go further there:

Amersham is out of your price range.
You could look at High Wycombe, you’d find something within a mile of station, but commuting is more and you need to look at school catchments. Schools very variable.
Alternatively look at villages like Hazlemere, Holmer Green and your husband drives to station. I did it all the time our kids were young. Then moved to Wycombe to walk.
We’d have loved Amersham but not in our price range either!
