Areas of Eastbourne - advice?

Hi! DH and I are looking to buy our first home together and are looking at Eastbourne and surrounding areas. I've heard mixed views on the Roselands area. Property agent says 'highly sought after' and a friend/Google says it's a bit 'rough' with some anti-social behaviour. We've seen a property that needs quite a lot of work but within our budget. Is it worth spending a lot of money on a property in this area?
I know the Old town and Meads come recommended but not sure we'd get what we need in our budget. Any advice is welcome we don't know Eastbourne all that well :)

Hello, I'd love to hear views on this, we're in a very similar position and heard the same about Roselands, Hampden Park and Langney. Although we've seen some lovely properties there.

We are particularly driven by schools - our DS is in year 3 (currently at a very good Catholic school) and our DD is 16 months. So somewhere family friendly, safe and with lots to do for the children. Our DS is very active and sporty, he currently plays for a local football club so would hope to continue this wherever we move to.

Diversity is something we also look for although we're not expecting an area to be anything like where we currently live in West London.😊Friendly and welcoming is what we would like.

We visited Eastbourne for the summer holidays and fell in love. We came back to view some properties in and around the area and the people we've met so far have been very friendly and good-willed. We love the vibe.

We also visited Horsebridge, some lovely properties there but all seemed quite close to the main road with lots of noise. Definitely open to exploring more. We did note there was poor network coverage there which wasn't great as we work a lot from home, so this is important.

We like Eastbourne for the easy commute to London for work, so any surrounding areas with easy access to London we'd consider too.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated - thank you.

Hi @Inquisitivemum! We put in an offer on the property in Roselands after walking around the area and talking to neighbours. They had all lived there 20+ years and raised families there. All mentioned good schools too. We actually lost that house but have had an offer accepted on a house in the Old Town which also seems like a very friendly area and close to the downs which we love.
We're currently renting in Uckfield and I wonder if that would suit you too? I commute to London once a week, it's an hour twenty to London Bridge. There are good schools and a lovely community, lots of kid friendly events in town and a nice high street with independent cinema.
Good luck with your search!

Thank you so much @WildFinch that's reassuring. The people we spoke to locally also said it was a nice area. We're going back to look at two properties in the area, one of which we saw last weekend, so let's see. We'll definitely talk to more locals to get a better feel for the area. I've heard great things about Old Town - all the best with settling in there! 😊

Hi Both, we’re considering moving to Eastbourne or nearby from London and I just wondered how you’re both finding it so far? Thank you and I hope you both found the best places for you and your family 🙏🏻

Hey @SunlitMeadow07
We moved in mid-December. So far we love it. We've walked up on the south downs and along the prom. Have explored the town centre a bit but don't need to go there much. The Old Town seems lovely, nice pubs. We've found some good tradespeople and our neighbours are friendly! We haven't long been here but overall we're really happy.
