Did your kitchen fitter clean your kitchen when finished?

Recently got a new kitchen and had our builders carpenter fit it. He’s not quite finished (a few replacement parts needed and plinth to go in.)

So, the kitchen is filthy. Obviously loads of dust and handprints and stickers on everything.

My DH seems to think that when the fitter finishes they clean all this up and that’s part of it.

Is that a thing? Or should I just go in there and start now 😅

In my head I’ve been imaging walking into my new shiny instant kitchen for about ten years… didn’t imagine it would actually need to be fitted!

There will obviously be a bit of dust and fingerprints which are easily rectified.

What do you mean by "filthy"?

Anonym00se · 18/07/2024 15:15

No. They cleared the worst of it but it still needed a good clean. TBH it took them bloody weeks to fit it, so I was happy to see the back of them and clean it myself.

They tidied but didn't clean to a 'ready to cook a meal' standard.

justasking111 · 18/07/2024 15:17

Hell no I tidied up every day after they'd gone

NoSquirrels · 18/07/2024 15:18

I think they’ll tidy up and dust off the worst, not clean it til it shines. Book someone to give everything a deep clean once all the trades have gone!

I mean filthy, dust coating everything, smaller wood chips and extra nails, small packaging etc in cupboards and drawers. Half ripped off stickers for warranty’s and stuff on cupboards and some kind of glue (?) streaking down the side of the island where the worktop was fitted.

I’m very keen to clean it all up, but DH is adamant they do it at the end and if I use the wrong thing I could mark it before they’re finished

They should tidy up after themselves yes, including taking stickers off things, getting rid of dirt, dust, paint blobs and whatever else, cleaning the tiles, getting marks off the sink, wiping down all the surfaces & cupboard doors and leave the kitchen clean and empty. The only thing the fitters left in ours was a spare filter for the cooker hood, a couple of light bulbs, and the instruction manual for the cooker.

They should do this at the end. It is pointless doing it now as they will make another mess the next day!

Yes ours did, they booked professional cleaners (who did a great job)! It was nice because we weren't expecting it. It hasn't been as clean as that since though 😆

VeryQuaintIrene · 18/07/2024 15:36

Ours did, but obviously as the very last thing, otherwise it would have wasted their time and my money!

Maverick66 · 18/07/2024 15:44

They'll tidy .....as in take away packaging and excessive wood shavings but dusting and cleaning will be your responsibility .
