Ikea kallax or besta?

i would like to add some storage to a wide alcove, fixed to the wall above a sideboard. It will be used for books, small ornament collection, fancy kitchenware etc (kitchen is tiny so limited there).

I initially thought besta but the recent reviews aren’t great, so wondered about Kallax - but I’m worried about larger items that won’t fit into the cubes.

Are there any similar options to besta, or am I worrying over nothing re reviews?!

I wouldn't go with kallax for books, small ornaments and fancy kitchenware. I think Besta or just open shelving would be better. Kallax cubes are just too deep. They're ok for big books like atlases and recipe books but I would prefer shallower shelves for most things.

Quality wise I'm not sure but do go to the showroom if you can. I spent ages weighing up Platsa Vs Pax online, but once I got in store there was a very clear quality difference and the choice became much easier.

I prefer Kallax. It looks nicer and I think you'd be surprised at just how much you can get in a box.

I much prefer Besta, it's more customisable, you have a better choice of finishes and it doesn't scream IKEA! in the same way.

We had Kaplan when the children were younger and they drive me crazy. So much stuff was just a tad too big for the squares and the open backs meant stuff endlessly falling down.

Kallax not Kaplan.

yes I'm imagining you're wanting a mix of shelves and cupboard doors rather than Drona boxes, but I may be wrong.
