That’s a very open question! Completely depends on what works for you and how you would use the space, plus budget of course

The biggest issue I can see is the kitchen being 1. small and 2. a corridor. So I would relocate the kitchen. I would then turn the current kitchen into a study / snug, block off the door from the current kitchen into the right reception room and add a door from the main reception room into the right reception room

There also seems to be very few windows so you really need to consider what to place where, to make best use of the light

Thank you for your comment. I think ideally, we would have the kitchen/diner open plan at the back. We just need ideas of how to fit a living room and maybe an office in as well. The toilet and stairs would stay where they are. Thanks again

I would put the kitchen where the small reception is, move the wall in the existing kitchen back into the main reception room so that it's straight and make the current kitchen into the dining room.

Is the reception a former garage?

Okayornot · 06/07/2024 13:26

I'd get rid of the conservatory and put a "proper" extension across the back on the footprint of the conservatory and bit if the reception next to it. Kitchen goes in the reception on the left, new extension becomes dining area and you use the right hand bit of the reception as a sitting area. This assumes your house is wide enough for this to work, but 18 feet or so should be enough (have seen similar in victorian terraces).

Second reception becomes your study and existing kitchen becomes a snug/tv room.

This. As long as you don't mind carrying shopping through another room to get to the kitchen. Alternatively move the wall as before but keep it as the kitchen and refigure the layout to make more of the expanded space. Make the small reception the dining/hang out space.

Assuming that the small reception used to be a garage, the existing wall between the two is probably loadbearing so that will need to be factored into what you decide to do.

Two suggestions, depending on how the dimensions would work for a table, and how load bearing the wall I've knocked down is!

I always prefer a separate kitchen and dining room so if you have visitors/guests you don't have to eat surrounded by kitchen cooking mess

NigelHarmansNewWife · 06/07/2024 14:37

You'd need to figure out where to put doors and block some up, but this is what I'd do. The red is where I'd remove the walls to create one openplan space.

Or flip the utility office idea I've posted with the reception on the right hand side.

HGFL1993 · 06/07/2024 14:55

It's not, it's just a random single story extension on the side of the house.

I think this is the cheapest option. If you can move walls or extend a bit then there's other things you could do. Yellow is worktops.

Current kitchen into living room/snug, push block door to side extension.
Kitchen diner at the back.
Door from kitchen/diner into side extension for utility and office.
