Estate agent experiences

We viewed a house a couple of days ago. We are chain free, ready to move. The house we viewed is empty. The guy who showed us round said the vendor is very keen to sell and willing to take offers.

Called up this morning to put in an offer. House is £575k and we offered £550k, with no chain, ready to proceed (we are renting).
Estate agent could not have been more disinterested - he even yawned. He acted as if he was humouring me. I said that the guy who showed us around said the vendor is open to offers, and he said 'no, that's not right, they want asking price or very close to it'. He then said the vendor would definitely reject the offer. I said I still wanted to offer that considering our position. He then said 'OK, if you insist, I'll put it forward and call you back when it's rejected'.

I couldn't believe his attitude! Is this typical?! Our estate agents we sold and bought through before were lovely.

We can and will increase our offer if necessary but I don't actually feel like he'll even let the vendor know at this point?! Haven't heard back yet.

He sounds rude, but if he knows that the vendors want close to asking then he's just doing his job for them.

If you are willing to offer more then offer more, I wouldn't play games if it was somewhere I really wanted.

Yeah definitely, we don't want to mess about. I did ask if they rejected it to ask them for a counter offer for us to consider.

Was it an estate agents with the initials RR?

Because we had utter rudeness and unprofessionalism from them too, I was actually shocked at how downright rude they where but all other estate agents have been fine.
