When to give private landlord notice?

Hi all,
Looking for some advice. I’m currently on a rolling contract and need to give 1 months notice to end the tenancy. Currently I pay the rent on the 14th of every month.
Ive been applying for rentals and to my surprise have been accepted for one in a much better location. I’ve paid the holding deposit while the estate agent conducts referencing.
I’m wondering when I should give notice to my current landlord? Should I wait until the referencing has been completed? It’s my first time moving property in this country so apologise for all the questions.
Also if I were to give notice for one month this week (so for around 25th July) would I just pay the full rent amount on the 14th July as usual or would I also have to pay up until the 14th August? I paid a rent upfront just before moving in to my current property.
Finally, when I applied for the current property, the estate agent handed it over to the landlord so I’m only in contact with herself. No move in itinerary was conducted but I took photos of the property when moving in and no damage has been done. How would I go about getting my deposit back? The landlord doesn’t live local so not sure how she will check the property once I’ve moved.
Any advice greatly appreciated!

I think the months notice has to be within your rental time period . So if your rental started in the 14th, then you have to, for example, give notice on (or before) 14th July to quit on 14th August. If you want to give a shorter notice, the landlord must agree in writing.

The agent will have the deposit in the custodial scheme. Why don't you talk to your landlord about it?

The earliest date you can end the tenancy is August 14th you need to give notice by July 14th.

Thanks all, I’ll contact current landlord today :) When do you normally receive the deposit back? Is it normally shortly after the last day of tenancy?
