Fitted wardrobes average cost

Please can someone give me an approximate cost for fitted wardrobes. We've just had a quote for 4 double sliding door wardrobes and 2 x bedside tables for £5k to £6k depending on which range we go for. Really like the design, people, and quality just haven't got anything to compare it to (nipped to Ikea and there sliding wardrobes came out around £1.5k but quality nowhere near as good and won't fot exactly or be installed). I know we should get some more quotes but not sure I can face the hard sell from the likes of Sharps etc? I just feel it's probably £1k -£2k too expensive but then everything has gone up massively so might be just about right. Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Could you buy the ikea and get a carpenter to fit it to make it look built in? Fitted wardrobes are lots of money.

Reno2023 · 24/06/2024 14:37

Try howdens, they started doing fitted wardrobes.

Vikingmama79 · 24/06/2024 14:42

Hi, we paid similar a couple of years back from a local independent. Felt the same in that we probably could have shopped around and got cheaper or done the ikea fitted hack but they did a brilliant job and still perfect.

Can't remember what we paid but I don't think it was a crazy price - got them made by a local independent kitchen/bathroom place and they were really really good - and they planned it all really really well to maximise storage in a really small and annoyingly shaped room.

Although after dismantling a wall of them this weekend - Ikea ones are stubborn fuckers and want to bloody stay put!

Do you know if you can go there without an account. We tried to go there for the kitchen but they wouldn't let us buy one without our fitter having an account as they said they were trade only. This was during covid though so that might have been why (or maybe they didn't like the look of us!).

Yes you do need account. I just checked with my husband.

Just got 2 sets of fitted wardrobes done lengths 3.8m (master) and 1.5m (box room) and we paid 9k total. Hammonds quoted us 9k for the bigger bedroom on its own 5 yrs ago. We went with a local company.

Maray1967 · 24/06/2024 23:37

£4k plus £400 to fit, just over a year ago, from a local company in Liverpool for one wall approx. 3.8 metres. We have wardrobes at the outside ends, one full length and one with two hanging rails, and shelves in the middle around the chimney breast, which include narrow but deep ones on one side which are great for handbags. They’re opening not sliding doors, with two full length mirrors.

BG2015 · 25/06/2024 06:49

If you're in the Northwest there's a company called Pax Bespoke that customise Pax wardrobes. They have a big following on Instagram and their work looks very good.

I'm going to use them when we move in a few weeks time- if the price is right.

ScoobyDoesnt · 25/06/2024 07:40

I used a local carpenter - just under £3k for 2 double full height wardrobes, 2 bedside tables, over bed storage and a long length (3x3ft wide) set of 3 drawers (9 drawers total, with bottom drawers being extra deep for jumpers etc.).

This also included removing and disposing of the old fitted furniture.

I had extra costs for moving some electrics around, and a new ceiling / plaster (the old one was covered in horrible artex!), but the cost above was the actual carpentry / units cost. Was completed last year, so relatively recently.

TheChosenTwo · 25/06/2024 07:42

Sharps quoted us 7K about 6 years ago, dh ended up making them himself for about 1k - fully customised to how we wanted them and they’re perfect!

UpToonGirl · 25/06/2024 07:58

Is that their final offer? We had a couple of companies in, sharps and another one which I've forgotten. Both quoted around £20k and without even negotiating, just ignoring them for a few days they both came down to around £13k. I think I could have gotten them down to half the original price if I'd wanted, so if that £6k is the first figure you should be able to wiggle it a lot.

RidingMyBike · 25/06/2024 08:09

We found a local company that worked out at about two thirds the price of Sharps or Hammonds. And having tried all the doors and drawers in the showrooms was making a much better quality product!

Also no pushy selling whatsoever. They were friendly in the showroom and helpful suggestions when measuring up to quote. Hammonds sent so many emails afterwards and kept trying to phone! I got the impression the local company was someone who'd been making these for decades and knew his stuff whereas the other companies were salesmen and probably on commission.

Found ours via an ad in one of those local magazines that gets put through the door.

SoftPillowAllNight · 25/06/2024 08:44

We got Hammonds this year one of their expensive ranges came in for around £6k. This was after multiple discounts etc. we had shopped around but wanted a high quality finish so went with Hammonds.
Very pleased with the wardrobes. Superb quality and the work was done quickly.

Apparently drawers cost more so having more shelves (with ikea skubs) can be more cost effective than drawers (and more space efficient too).

TooTiredToType77 · 25/06/2024 08:52

Sharps tend to not have an back to their wardrobes. I dint rate their quality. I had 4.5m of fitted wardrobes in SW London 2 years ago for £8k. Absolutely perfect and love my wardrobes! Beautiful interior (egger board in Winchester oak) internal drawers in one wardrobe and they are all 2.7m high.

Ariela · 25/06/2024 11:46

Don't get Sharps, we had one installed, and it forever annoys me that the quality of finish is nowhere near as good as DH would do. Things like bit are not straight, edges don't meet etc.
Friend has also found the same.

Comefromaway · 25/06/2024 11:49

We had two bedrooms done by Hammonds. My daughter had a very complicated design (awkward shaped room) with loads of storage but it was one of their cheaper ranges and it cost about £3k. We had a simpler design but including dressing table and bedside cabinets but chose the premium range with mirrors etc and is cost around £6-7 k

mambojambodothetango · 25/06/2024 11:51

I just paid £3k for triple fitted wardrobes. Used a local kitchen fitter who does bedrooms as well. Ask around for local people to quote.

Novavee · 25/06/2024 17:13

I had Sharps install ours about 2.5 years ago. 4 doors, so not massive. That together with alcove built-in storage in the lounge cost around £5k total.
I liked the finish and quality and the fact they didn't have backs as allows wall customisation and saves on space, of which we didn't gave much.

I’m looking at Hammonds and would be interested to know what you had fitted for your main bedroom which cost you £6-7K. Thank you

Anushka · 09/03/2025 20:36

Just as an update we ended up getting ours from John Lewis, they came and built them so quite easy. I still need to add some coving to finish them off and cover the slim gap to the ceiling. Cost was around £2k for a triple length of wardrobes and 2 sets of drawers. I’m really happy with quality and how they look (found them on a post on here). Worth a look but only if you have standard rooms.

I'm pleased that all worked out for you! Do you mind sharing the range you used from John Lewis? I wasn't aware they did installation. The cost seems very reasonable

Anushka · 10/03/2025 06:37

It was Elstra

I had a dreadful experience with Hammonds. Really poor design and service.
It took forever to sort it out, it was stressful and expensive.
The final product isn't great, and cost me several thousands, about £5k I think.
This was back in 2011. I left a review online - something I'd never done before or have done since.
I'd then forgotten all about it until they responded out of the blue last week - a mere 14 years later.
I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.
