Big Eye/Little Eye Windows 🤪

Just a quick rant, but why do people get replacement windows where the panes of glass are different sizes? It drives me batty! It’s like looking at a person with one BIG eye and one little eye, like this guy: 🤪

If you want your house to look like this 🤪, it’s your choice, but I think it reflects poorly on everyone involved with choosing those windows. It’s awful.

Thanks for letting me unburden myself! I know a lot of people live in houses where they didn’t get to choose the windows, so you don’t need to tell me about that.

It's cheaper.

Unfortunately it comes down to cost but like you, I hate it.

When we had new windows, we made sure this did not happen (dummy openers I think they called it?) but the finished job is far nicer (although more expensive).

I'd never really noticed it until we were asked if we wanted equal sight lines when we replace our front bedroom windows. We weren't replacing the downstairs at the same time and thought it would look odd having some match and some not, so stuck with the existing setup. It doesn't look too bad as we have aluminium frames, so they are thinner than upvc, but would like nicer if they all matched.

Another consideration aside from cost is the amount of light you lose by having equal sight lines, especially if you have thick upvc frames. Even with aluminium, having all 5 sections of our downstairs bay window matching would mean a lot of extra frame.

It’s odd that it would be more expensive to have window panes of the same size. I wonder why that is?

Well done to everyone that chooses a more appealing design.

I viewed a house that had three or four different types of windows throughout. It really put me off.

I was quite enticed by a house that appeared to have eyebrows, though.

Are we just snobs?

Oh well.
