Party wall surveyor (as neighbour)

My neighbour is having loft, kitchen and side extension done, all on boundary line.

I've accepted their party wall surveyor, and have probably been an idiot to do so. I skimmed his qualifications but now see they are essentially meaningless, and his appointment letter had typos. I signed the letter as have been having a rough few weeks and didn't have the headspace to find my own surveyor.

Anyway, it's done. He is doing the survey this week. Can anyone give me tips of what to ask / check for when he comes round so that he at least does a half reasonable job? I understand he will take photos, explain the build, discuss times of the builders, then give all that in a report?

The main thing is that he needs to understand the scale and scope of the works and so you should ask him to confirm any impact on you.
You should ensure he is very clear on the state of your side of the wall and so that if there's any impact that this is rectified at their cost

Thanks. I've looked at the plans carefully so I understand the scale and scope pretty well. But I'll let him explain from scratch and at least I can challenge / ask questions based on what I know. And will additionally take some photos as well as the ones the surveyor takes.

The owner is a developer and suggested having a party wall surveyor, I think he is pretty used to paying up should things go wrong. So I'm hoping for minimal stress on that front.

is the surveyor RICS registered?

Nope.

I know I have made a mistake on that.
