Leak water damage to ceiling

I have a recent leak in my roof which has leaked to my ceiling upstairs. There is a large patch. The leak has resolved however does anyone know how I go about repairing the damage?

Don't want to just paint over the leak and risk mould growth. Not sure if there is something protective I can put over it.

Wait til it’s completely dry. Then buy some Matt varnish (a cheap one will do or you may have some lurking in the shed) paint over the area and allow to thoroughly dry. Then paint with emulsion. Then you will need to paint the whole ceiling. Hopefully you won’t see the mark any more. I have same mark on a bedroom ceiling and that’s what I shall do. Works well.
PS: must be MATT Varnish otherwise emulsion won’t stick.

If you are sure the leak has stopped, leave it to dry completely (there shouldn’t be a risk of mould if it’s dry). Then use the stain product - leave it to dry for however long the tin says (plus possibly an extra couple of days) then paint over.

If you don’t use the stain block, the water mark will come through.
