I’m choosing a new kitchen. Hoping to fit an ‘American style’ double door fridge freezer but needs to be less than 85 cm wide.
I the look of the ones with freezer drawers
The kids want a water cooler but I’m concerned the water tank will take up loads of space in the door.
it’s hard to get to a showroom to see them in real life so looking for any recommendations on makes/design layout.
TIA 🙏

Posted too soon! With the drawers no matter how well you organise them, you always have to rummage through them as invariably whatever you wanted was always at the back/bottom. It was the biggest disappointment ever as I loved the look of it

The water tank takes up loads of space - I'd resist if I were you!

We've got a Hotpoint one which is great, too wide for you but if you spend some time you can compare the volumes of the fridge freezer parts and there's quite a difference (despite being similar externally). It was important for me as we live rurally so no shops round the corner.

I really like having the freezer on the bottom rather than side by side though!

We just replaced a Rangemaster like the one you picture. I also thought the drawers were a great idea. They were a pain in the ass! We’ve since replaced it with this

Thanks. I’ll have a look at that one. I really wanted the drawers but it sounds like they don’t work very well 😖

Thanks. I can also se me being the only person who ever fills or cleans the water tank. I think I’ll avoid it. 🙏

I wouldn't get one with a water dispenser. The tank takes up a lot of space, and the filters are quite expensive too.

HysteriaOfTheWanderingWomb · 15/06/2024 09:50

Unless you are a disciplined sort and will have a cleaning routine for it, the water dispensers are great for bacteria. I've worked in environmental health and will never buy a slush puppy for the kids from a shop for the same reason.

Houseplanter · 15/06/2024 10:30

Hi OP we're just about to order this one for the same reasons as you have.

There's just 2 of us and this one seems to fit the bill and has significantly more room than our current one.

I've seen it in a shop a couple of times and it's rather lovely in platinum and the slate black is beautiful if you want dark

We have this one

www.samsung.com/uk/refrigerators/french-door/multi-door-rf23r62e3sr-rf23r62e3sr-eu/

Having previously had a side by side, the drawers at the bottom (there are 2 hidden by a single drawer front) are so so much better.
There is plenty of room in the fridge with the water dispenser.

TheOneWithUnagi · 15/06/2024 13:51

Sorry missed the width requirement! I'd still recommend the "French style" with drawers underneath if you can find one.

TravelInsuranceQ · 15/06/2024 13:57

I recently bought a Haier one with a water dispenser and ended up returning it because the water dispenser dripped every time it was used, leaving water running down the front of the fridge freezer on to the door.
I complained to AO.com and they said "that's just what they do, it's not a fault".
I insisted on being put through to Haier customer service and the agent say he has the exact same model and his does the same and "it's to be expected it's not a fault".
They offered to send an engineer out but said the engineer would just tell me the same thing, it's not a fault it's what they do.
So I returned it and replaced with a different brand.
I'd never buy Haier again!

Houseplanter · 15/06/2024 15:48

Oh no @TravelInsuranceQ ! Even though we won't be having a water dispenser I'm now having second thoughts about Haier!

Chelmew · 15/06/2024 18:09

That is shocking customer services @TravelInsuranceQ we will definitely not be having a water dispenser!!

We got a Liebherr as a replacement and are very happy with it (no water dispenser though which is fine by me!)
