Advice on living in Sudbury, Suffolk?

Looking for advice from anyone living in Sudbury, Suffolk? Pros and Cons on the area would be great! I know it's a small village type feel and sense the community take great pride in themselves (which we like) and majority of the children and community seem very well behaved with very little crime. It has great schools (Wells Hall Primary & Thomas Gainsborough Secondary we are looking at). Down sides I hear though is there isn't much to do for older kids and can be abit of a drive to the nearest hospitals or if you ever have to wait for an ambulance?

Friend lived in Sudbury and hated it. Old person town, still have drugs etc and pretty town but boring in the long run and takes forever to go anywhere else so they moved to near sible hedingham instead.

It's my nearest town and is pretty and quiet. The shops aren't great it's mainly coffee shops and charity shops these days but it's in beautiful countryside and lots of nice places nearby such as Long Melford.

If you're flexible, I'd move to Bury St Edmunds. It's a great town which offers a lot more.

If you don't mind it quiet tho, Sudbury is nice.

I work in Halstead (the next town down) and loads of people said to avoid sudbury, there are quite a few drug and County line issues in the area as the younger children are quite isolated and don't realise what they're getting into..

However several friends live in long melford and rate it and I'm the only one in my office who doesn't live that direction out of town

I lived near there for many years and it is a nice little town. I would look at some of the villages nearby, though. Boxford is a lovely village with a lot going on. The village school is very good and it is in the catchment area for Thomas Gainsborough.

Hi , jumping on this post as we are currently looking at a house in hundon, folly road. I have a 13 yr old daughter and 3 boys 9,6 & 5mnths. I am wondering is it a nice area for children to grow up in and stuff to do. Also public transport along that road to local schools secondary school mostly. And into any local towns/villages. Locating from Surrey so not familiar with any surrounding areas.
thanks
