I just moved into my first council house , the state of carpets there is miserable and I have to have my own , just wondering what are the costs with underlay and laminate flooring in the entrance.

Do you have a Carpet Barn in your area? Or perhaps something similar. They deal with end of rolls, off cuts, discontinued stock etc so much cheaper. When we first moved into our house one room had really bad carpeting that needed replacing immediately, and we wanted something cheap as it was just an interim measure until we decided what to do with the rest of the house. It was about 10 years ago now but cost us about £80 for a fitted carpet.

You'll need to get a quote from someone local who measures your space. There are too many variables that will affect the cost (where you live, which firm you choose, what spec you choose, how big your space is etc).

Thanks I will visit them , do I need measurements? Or will they give me a rough idea ?

Carpetbarn have 10% off vouchers in local papers and flyers, free estimates, they come and measure up. We are quoted 5k for carpet at £25sqm for 3 beds, 2 reception, hall and Stairs and lino in kitchen. It also depends on the price of the carpet and they have loads of offcuts in different sizes.

I recently recarpetted my 4 bedroom house OP (laminate in one bathroom- 4 bedrooms, stairs, corridor, landing- big Edwardian house, large rooms, West London… in other words, anything I do costs a bomb because of the size and location… this is not a stealth boast. It’s just a reality. I’m about to sell and downsize).

I used Tapi.
They came to my home. I chose flooring that matched my budget.
They measured, fitted new carpet (& new underlay), removed old carpet/flooring.
£4000
It was just SO easy.
I’m at an age where I just don’t want to have to do all of the things! 😆
I couldn’t be happier with the beautiful carpet and the service.

I spent £1500 for three bedrooms, landing and stairs, but it was quite a few years ago. However, the carpet was one of the more expensive ones in the shop at the time.

Spent £2200 for wood flooring downstairs, but it was not laminate which would have been a lot cheaper. You could do a quick estimate of the space involved to get a general idea of the costs in the shop, but for an accurate quote you'll need someone to come round and measure.

Take some rough measurements yourself.
Do a drawing and add the measurements.
Visit some carpet shops.
Choose something from the remnant pile.
Ask about visit to check your measurements.
Carpet people will sort everything out for you. Buy the best you can afford.

The cheapest way to do it is to buy roll ends from somewhere like https://designer-carpet.co.uk/ and then get an independent fitter to come and fit them.

I saw some YouTube videos , and will try one room on my own .

You will need one of those knee kicker tools a hammer and a Stanley knife. I have never done it myself but I don't think it will be to bad. The most difficult bit is probably getting the carpet up into the room and unrolled

username2024 · 02/06/2024 20:19

@SerenityNowInsanityLater what was the name of this carpet from Tapi?

whsm17 · 07/06/2024 09:59

I'm gonna do it myself , I'm kinda excited after all the encouragement
