Super large chain - please give me hope?

We've just completed the chain for house purchase by having an offer accepted on a chain free property. So we are selling house #5 and buying house #6 in the chain.

Is it doomed to fail? has anyone been in a chain this large and it worked out? Last time we bought it was a chain of 3 and was a total disaster (we had to break it to keep our buyer).

It's taken a while to 1) sell our house and 2) find something suitable ourselves, so already anxious about it all falling apart.

Happy to hear both happy and doom and gloom stories just to get a sample. Thanks!

I was talking to someone yesterday who{d just completed on an eight link chain. And apparently it wasn't too painful. So it can be done!

We have just completed on what was 5 house chain but it ended up with 2 breaks in the chain to stop it collapsing. The sellers of the first house ended up moving in with family for 2 months to keep their buyer and the second from top of the chain also did the same.

Funnily enough this was us in 2014, seven properties in chain. all parties agreed they wanted completion within two months around late April, hoping to exchange mid April. End April nothing happening except we knew parties 3-7 ready. Turned out cash buyer at bottom decided last minute to take out a mortgage, somehow got delayed until mid June when whole chain completed.

I was worried there'd be problems on completion day with late transfer of funds and informed our solicitor of this - he talked to others in line and some funds were transferred higher up the chain, by-passing solicitors. Our purchaser was on our doorstep at 12.30 (luckily very patient as we refused access as property cleared but still cleaning and told completion hadn't taken place) - took place at 1pm. An hour's delay completing on our purchase at 2pm.

Did it work out for you?

@Hopefulhousebuyer1 sort of! The chain did collapse, but then we ended up pretty quickly in a new chain of only 3 properties and that all went through.

Good luck if you are facing similar!
