If you have an open plan kitchen/diner/snug how did you decide the layout?

Debating between L shaped kitchen in the middle part with dining and seating areas at the back by sliding doors.

Or U shaped kitchen at the back with windows overlooking the garden and the dining area. Snug area in the middle bit of the house.

Any pics very welcome!

Where will, you be facing when you are cooking and prepping? It doesn’t look like you will be looking out into the garden? Apologies if I have this wrong. Also family in the snug aren’t looking out onto garden and will have their backs to you, not very conducive for conversation.

Anymore thoughts on your extension layout? It was fairly easy for us as we knocked down our conservatory to build our extension and that helped as I knew what layout I didn’t want.

We plan to have a window at the back out onto the garden where the sink / worktop would be. Then sliding doors further along with the dining area. Mmm yes not too sure about the snug area seating. Leaning towards having kitchen area here as logistically thought it would be easier/cheaper as all the drainage/plumbing is that side of the house too.

Maybe find out what the cost would be. We still had to move some pipes as we moved our sink a metre to another wall.
What I will say is that with your sink and prep area in front of the window on same wall as your sliders you will have your back to the dinning area and snug. Apologies if I have that wrong.

I'm designing mine based on option 1. I will have a telly in the seating area so having it at the back and not anywhere near the bifolds so that we don't have glare on it. Our room will be west facing so it gets that very bright afternoon sun and currently we have the curtains closed if the telly is on so when we get to extend, we shall move the snug area further into the darker middle of the house and have the kitchen and dining in the much brighter back of the house.

Ohh so you have any plans pics or anything? I was worried about a glare on the TV and we would mainly use the sofa/TV in the evenings so wouldn’t matter if it’s was in the darker part.

Here are the rough 3d images from the kitchen design.

I also designed it in such a way that whilst I do food prep, I'm facing into the space, dining space and snug area.

I much prefer option A. Is your pic (roughly) to scale, and are the walls in place already? I'd made the utility smaller and the kitchen a bit bigger. And possibly put the door to the utility on the wall opposite the back wall (if you can gain a bit of space from the kitchen) and make it a utility/pantry.

As for the sofa, I'd rotate it 90 degrees so the 2 sides of the sofa are along the lounge wall and with the back to the utility. Then you can have the TV on (what I assume is) the external wall.
