Good idea to make my front garden private?

My front garden is bigger than my back garden, I am considering to make half of it private with about 1.8m hedge, but is it good idea to do so? once the hedge growing up, 50% of my house will be hidden behind the plants.
I don't know why I always give up this idea, as I like the current front garden, it looks bright and I can feel my neighbours like it as well,
but I can get quite big space if I choose private it.
