List of what to do in the run up to moving

I'm going out of my mind and I need a plan. I'm separating from H, so he isn't helping. And I'm jumping from room to room. Is there an online plan where you can say how many rooms you've got and when you're hoping to move and it'll tell you what to do?
I really need help.

This is quite useful although I have to confess I am being deeply disorganised. The whole house looks like a jumble sale at the moment.

I don't know about an online plan but my plan (I moved 3 times in 4 years) was to declutter as much as possible before the first 2 moves. I went through everything. I gave stuff away, hired a skip, went to the tip.

Then I packed a suitcase with stuff we needed for the first few days like bed linen, towels, sets of nightwear, sets of clothing, toiletries etc. Then important documents in my work bag. I kept these in my car. I then started to pack up the house apart from absolute essentials. On the evening before moving I packed an essentials box with cat food, kettle, mugs, tea bags, silverwear and wine.

It's messy but you do get there eventually. My last top tip is to make up the beds as soon as you get in. Then after takeaway and wine you can just flop.

As you are separating is your ex taking some things? If so are you dividing things up before the move. He can pack his own stuff.

We have just moved.

We didn't use packers or movers, just hired a van and did it ourselves.

My tips are :

  • declutter as much as you can. Sell or give things away on Facebook Marketplace. Be ruthless and take things to the tip and charity shops.
  • get yourself a notebook, number each box you pack and in the notebook write the number of the box , it's contents and what room it needs to go to.

-Use masking tape to secure draw fronts.

-Get a small plastic box and on moving day put your mobiles, car keys and anything else important in it.
