Moved and feeling overwhelmed with organising and decorating

Household of 2 adults and 2 primary school children. We moved this week and the new place looks a mess. I managed to clean it but the thought of organising it is making me feel very overwhelmed. I had to pack in a rush and it's just box after box with furniture in the wrong room.

How do I fix this and start to make this place look homely. It all feels a bit much.

Are there any tips or short cuts to help?? Thanks.

Try not to look at all of it all at once. Start with one room at a time, ideally the room you spend most time in (lounge?) and go from there. Make that room free from boxes and make it comfortable so you have a relaxing space to retreat to. If you can, maybe take a couple days off work while the children are at school so you can work undisturbed.
Good luck!

Have you considered getting a professional organiser to help?

Get all the furniture in the right rooms first. Then open each box and decide which room it's contents best fit. Move it to that room and stack. Then room by room unpack, anything you take out of a box in that room which doesn't go there put back into an empty box, anything which should go in that room but doesn't work in the new house out in another box.. Make the room nice. Once done, distribute the bits which do have an obvious home to the correct rooms but leave the things which don't fit till last....they may never fit your new home or might go somewhere else eventually. Work your way through the rooms like this.

This is exactly what I needed, thank you for all the tips. Going to start today and feel better already knowing there is a plan.

Once your stuff is in it, you'll feel much better. I wouldn't rush into the decorating, sometimes it's good to live in the house for a while to get a sense of the light etc and will help with your colour decisions. It will also give you a bit of a breather!
