Self employed mortgage- director to sole trader will it matter?

Me and my partner are currently going through our mortgage application. He has been self employed for 3 years, however he resigned as the director of his limited company as it was a partnership about 6 months ago. Will this affect the mortgage application? He still has his self assessments for these last 3 years, he is still at the same place doing the same job, he just isn’t the director anymore. We’re just confused as to wether the fact he was a director and now isn’t will restrict us from getting the mortgage.

I'd check with a broker but I was recently told it didn't matter so long as there was evidence of self assessment tax returns for the past few years.
