Tips on choosing a conveyancer

We are about to accept an offer on our house, however there is quite a lot of pressure to move fast.

Our EA has recommended a solicitor (and we've used the company before). They were ok - got the job done, but wondering if we should look around in case there is one with better communicati / moves faster.

When you selected your conveyancer, how did you choose? Is it a matter of the more you pay, the better the service?

Local recommendations if you can get them!

I would try to find an experienced solicitor run practice, ideally a local high Street firm. I do think like everything the cheaper end is very poor - don't understand the process themselves/ bulk led with little individual attention or the skill to deal with trickier issues. Its the biggest purchase of most people's lives so I think just focusing on the speed of the transaction is a mistake. Go for experienced practitioners. I have in the past paid a much higher rate than normal for a commercial solicitor for specialist land.

I've bought and sold a few times now and used different solicitors each time and none have been any faster or better than another.

They all seem to work at their own pace.
