i like the first one

choosyfloosy · 03/04/2008 21:16

Passionately want them all. Second one for slap and tickle but I'd marry the fourth one [sensible head] though I must say I would check out that Main Road address before buying the wedding ring.

(1) is super pretty and I assume 'full of character'. I love (4) because its huge, but I think the decor would make me ill. Would you be able to decorate? Where will you/DH be working

suwoo · 03/04/2008 21:17

I'm loving your definitions choosyfloosy, you've summed them up so well.

Wheelybug · 03/04/2008 21:18

first one based on house - have no idea about locations.

Wheelybug · 03/04/2008 21:19

Actually I meant the 4th one - don't know why I called it the 1st. Think it was the 1st one I looked at (dim)

JingleyJen · 03/04/2008 21:20
  1. to rent looks lovely
  2. to buy and do up..

depends on location but don't think I could cope with living in 4 for long without buying some dulux

Wheelybug · 03/04/2008 21:20

although agree re decor

ok more info

we are both going to be working from home, which brings a certain space requirement. assuming we'd like to stay married. we will need to travel to London - difficult to say how often - could be once a week or once every two months. we hope to have lots of friends to stay.

  1. Lees Bank House - pretty village, one willage store, one pub. good school - but in next village (ie car every morning). 15 mins drive to mum and db, sil and neice, 25 mins drive to big train station. excellent space - 5 bedrooms = 1 spare for visitors plus good size study. interior looking very tired, tatty small kitchen (tatty in a bad way, not a rural distressed way) ditto bathrooms - ok but just really drab and weary.
  1. Honey Pot Cottage. ridiculous name and generally a bit strange. overlooks a very pretty market town - with farmers' market, nice restaurants, library, sufficient shops that, should we choose, we'd never have to leave. 15 mins to family 25 to station. ok infant school (dd2) poor-ish junior school (dd1)
  1. in many ways my favourite - village with a bit more to it than no. 1 - couple of good restaurants (one with a Michellin star!), deli, poncey toy shop, poncey flower shop, excellent school, family 10 mins drive, station 15-20. but only 3 and a half bedrooms. = one for us, one each for dds, and half a room for combined study and spare
  1. the practical one. ridiculously big - a study each! same vilage as family; average school - same one as my neice, 25 mins drive to station; but little character and somewhat colourful (though in fact lokks better in rl than on the web)

Well no 1 is a pretty picture but there's no info about it is there, so can't form an opinion.

Number 2 looks nice.

Don't like no 3.

Like no 4 lots but it's for sale, and you said you wanted to rent, so a bit confused.

LynetteScavo · 03/04/2008 21:48

I like no 2.

hatwoman · 03/04/2008 21:49

no 4 been on market for a year - the owners are considering letting it.

why don;t you like no 3?

OP posts:
Scattybird · 03/04/2008 21:50

Number 4. Lets face it, it's probably the one closest to civilisation.

Also, unless you have a live in Nanny you are hardly likely to enjoy the restaurants that are offered in the villages on your own.

I really really wet myself over the first one but with the children..............

ShinyPinkShoes · 03/04/2008 21:51

I like 1 and 4

If 1 is as nice inside as out it would get my vote.

expatinscotland · 03/04/2008 21:51

no. 1

hatwoman · 03/04/2008 21:52

I'm moving up north to get away from civilisation...

OP posts:
denbury · 03/04/2008 21:54

the third and 4th one but would love the other to if i didn't have kids!!!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 03/04/2008 21:54

Don't like 3 because looks 'worn' and 'tired' inside. Kitchen especially important to me when I look at a house, and that one doesn't appeal. Also, the upstairs rooms appear to have lots of sloping ceilings, which probably means a nightmare furnishing adequately.
Can now see you plus point for it (we cross posted originally), but think the limited number of bedrooms would be the final nail in the coffin for me.

CantSleepWontSleep · 03/04/2008 21:55

Am surprised how many people are saying 1 just based on a single picture!

expatinscotland · 03/04/2008 21:56

because the other ones don't look good inside.

they look tired and worn out.

hatwoman · 03/04/2008 21:56

1 is massively worn and tired - the only thing wrong with it. if we were buying and had money to spend on it I'd go for it.

denbury what puts you off 1 and 2 with having kids?

OP posts:
hatwoman · 03/04/2008 21:57

2 is brand spanking new inside

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 03/04/2008 21:57

The kitchens don't look worn or tired in either 2 or 4 though Expat.

And from hatwoman's later post it appears that no 1 is the most worn inside!

Scattybird · 03/04/2008 21:58

Yes HW, but you might need a little civilisation. Spending every day inside a house with DH and the children may or may not send you a bit bonkers. At least you have your family around for No.4
