sorry 1 is lovely!

hatwoman · 04/04/2008 01:05

that's really nice lurker - and big too. but I don;t like Matlock (I don;t think) and it's too far from family - which defeats the object of moving there. we'd be very lonely.

Sorry Hatwomn, I didn't read your posts properly and now realise that you know trhe area well. Also re Nether Padley, I was being Bakewell centric rather than Sheffield, and tbh I don't really know it very well, I used to have friends in Nether Padley, but they were down a dirt road, they must have been on the outskirts of NP , more Grindleford really I suppose, but we always used to stay there to go to Sheffield for nights out. 15 mins away? Are you sure? Wow!!
I would say definitely NOT 4, it is by far the least attractive house and imo the Bkewell side is far more attractive than Hope Valley, plus when dc are older you will DEFINITELY want them going to LAdy Manners rather than Hope Valley College.
Sorry for waffling on, I love this part of the world, I just like talking about it and I would dearly love to be back there.
I would flip a coin between Baslow and Ashford. My favourite is Ashford, think that's where I would move to if I were moving back.

ladylush · 04/04/2008 08:43

I like 1 and 4 but I don't like the carpet or decor in 4.

MinkyBorage · 04/04/2008 12:35

I am div!! I have no idea where Nether Padley is!!! I know Upper Padley. Sorry for bollocksy rubbish I am spouting! I am so excited about your move, very sad I know, please let us know what you decide!!

hatwoman · 04/04/2008 13:17

no no you're right "Nether Padley" is basically part of Grindleford. no idea where the lines are between Grindleford/nether padley/upper padley.

I really agree re LM and HV schools - but, in theory, we're planning to come back to London before then - it's a bit of a rural sabbatical rather than a big move. ANd I half agree re HV cf Bakewell. although Hathersage is nice and further out to places like Castleton and Edale is too - but that's getting too remote.

do you mind me asking how old you are? it's not beyond the bounds of possibility that we know each other...I went to school in Sheffield but knew a fair few people from round and about. and my very best friend was at LM - were you?

ONE!! in a shot- it looks lovely.

smugmumofboys · 04/04/2008 13:27

Ashford is a lovely village and so is Baslow (I think). My aunty lives in Monyash which is equally gorgeous and not too far away. From what she says, these villages are awash with London 'types" (eg, a QC and someone from Simply Red ) so I'm guessing there must be enough to do and tbh my rellies (all Peak District farmers) think nothing of a thirty mile round trip for a take away curry.

MotherDear · 04/04/2008 13:29

No.1 very pretty. No 3 looks nice, too.

Flumpybumpy · 04/04/2008 13:29

Lees Bank House looks lovely

MinkyBorage · 04/04/2008 15:28

Oh how funny. I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours........ I'm 35. Bet I know your bf if we're in the same ball park, it's so ...........small up there!

LaidbackinEngland · 04/04/2008 15:42

Hatwoman... No 1 is the nicest to look at from the outside. Have you thought about negotiating with the letting agent/landlord re. decorating. We did this when we rented We paid £1600 to have the house decorated and then deducted it from the first years rent . We got the house we liked and decorated it simply and to our taste (and landlady's).They got their house decorated and claimed the cost off their tax .

Issy, no not Doctors. Still, very close, bet they know eachother!

TillyScoutsmum · 04/04/2008 17:47

3 or 4 for me.... Bakewell - too busy - lots of tourists might p*ss you off and the temptation for Bakewell puds ...

Really like Baslow - amenities but still quiet.

1st one looks pretty but if the inside is too tired...

4th one is massive and looks like a lovely house.. Decor not great but kitchen looks lovely

hatwoman · 04/04/2008 19:37

MB I'm 37. Lived in Longstone 70-76 and Grindleford 84-89 then went to uni. mum and db still live there.

and Tillyscout - you know the area too, clearly. is Bakewell really that bad for tourists? I'd be happy to avoid the town centre at weekends and it can't be that bad the rest of the time, can it?

I remember going there to see the calves (before they got taken to slaughter ) and feeding the ducks etc way before the new agricuultal centre

How funny, we'll definitely know or know of some of the same people, I knew loads of people who lived in Grindleford. I lived in Youlgrave.

TillyScoutsmum · 04/04/2008 20:23

You're probably right - Bakewell could be hell in summer weekends but probably not so bad other times. Its parking which is the biggest nightmare and it looks like you might be within walking distance anyway ?? Agree the house itself looks a bit garden centre ish as well though.

Love Baslow - am v.

robinpud · 04/04/2008 20:30

I wouldn't touch Bakewell with a bargepole- far too busy, but any of the others look lovely..

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 04/04/2008 21:31

I would say 3 purely 'cos you can walk to Chatsworth from there. Buy a family annual ticket and you are sorted for days out all year.

critterjitter · 04/04/2008 22:08

1st one looks nice, but having had experience of living in cottages, I would go for something more practical. And the 4th one looks most practical.
