Do I need an architect for this?

We are planning some internal renovation work of a room that would include widening an existing internal opening (needs a steel), changing patio doors (same opening), insulating a flat roof and adding skylights. We already have structural engineer drawings. Would we also need an architect to draw up plans or can we go direct to a builder with just structural engineer plans and tell them what we want for the rest? Advice gratefully received!

You should be fine to go to a builder with the structural engineer's plans.

Have a check if you need planning/building regs sign off for anything as if you do you might need plans the engineers haven't drawn up but other than that no need.

Very good advice. Phone planning at your local council, they're very helpful generally.

You’d be wasting your money with an architect as you don’t need one.

The structural design and calculations are all you need. You do need a building notice for this though.

Structural engineer drawings are fine. Don’t waste money on an architect when you don’t need one 😊

Thank you, very helpful. We would need building regs sign off but not planning permission I don't think, it is all at the back of the house. Now to find builders then!
