Unregistered energy supply?

Hi,

Wondered if anyone has any advice. Took out a tenancy last July and was advised a specific broker was our energy company - I'd never heard of this broker before and upon searching there's very little info online.

Contacted the broker 10+ times over the last 10 months to set up supply and billing and have never had a response. The letting agent provided us with a number and advised that its a "split meter" with one meter for the whole property and so we need to go through this specific number to set up supply. The telephone number we were provided with has never proved useful, the contact is always away or says he will call us back.

I've raised a case with the ombudsmen as I'd like to get this sorted ASAP as I know the bill will be adding up. Ombudsmen have advised they can't help as they can't find a registered meter or supply for our property; the man on the phone suggested the landlord has never set this up properly and as such responsibility for the supply has never been allocated to a supplier.

Given that the landlord, letting agent and ombudsmen can't help, does anyone have any suggestions or experience of a similar situation? Thank you in advance!

I can't advise you OP, but just wondering if it's worth contacting the company who distributes energy in your area, search Distribution Network Operator and that'll help - obviously that doesn't mean their your supplier, but they might be able to advise.

Do you have access to the meter? If so, one thing I would do is take regular screen shots and made a record of the dates taken.

Years ago I bought a new build in Manchester and never could sort out the meter (it was a flat and no one seemed interested in helping me find the meter). I eventually gave up and after 6 years it was finally sorted out and I wasn't back billed.

I would raise a query with UKPN.
