Is there ever a right time to move?

We are considering moving to a new area, about 30 minutes from where we currently live. It will offer us a slightly better standard of living as the area is nicer. The house we are considering renting has a new bathroom and new kitchen whereas our current place is really tired and feels a bit tatty.

The problem is that to afford the rent in the new place, both of us will need to work. In our current place, if one of us loses our job, we could still afford the rent quite easily. So I’m slightly concerned as my current work contract only has ten months left, after which they may or may not renew me. I shouldn’t have a huge issue with finding another job but might take a couple of months.

Is it just the two of you or are DCs involved too?
I wouldn't choose to put myself in that position for a rental TBH, but would if buying.

It seems risky, OP. What are the pros/cons of the move? Is it just the general wear and tear of the house you're in that you'd like to move away from? Or is the new area better for amenities, schools, green space?

We're a single income family and moving to a new area for better quality of life, so we've gone through similar discussions. We've decided to take the risk because we'll be living in the new house for at least 20 years.
