I’m in the process of trying to upcycle our Kallax and have just been applying the BIN shellac primer.

All good till I turned round and realised that I’ve splattered the sofa!!! I thought I’d covered everything up within range but obviously not.

I don’t have any meths in the house - any idea what I can do???? Will I be able to get it off??

Desperate for help please!!!!! Thank you!!

Have you any other solvents eg white spirit, isopropyl alcohol, I would try those.

I thought we had a bottle of white spirits but DP tells me now that he chucked it out! Lord knows why.

I’ve tried hand gel and even Jagermeister 😂😂

I’m wondering if the night garage sells anything….

Nail polish remover got white gloss off a navy velvet bed frame 😁 Applied carefully with a Q-tip!

Failing that, hairspray?

Try any kind of alcohol you have on hand. True shellac uses alcohol as solvent and it is reversible, meaning you should be able to remove it even once dried.

Do try a swab in a corner beforehand as to not remove color from your sofa.

Next time take the time to set up your diy space and protect everything!

Not hairspray! That is basically the same thing as shellac.

Ammonia diluted in water works on BIN but possibly isn’t safe for the sofa. I use it as a brush cleaner.

Ammonia and dish soap diluted in 10x distilled water is great as fabric, upholstery and rug spot cleaner, but not do sure about if/how it can dilute shellac.

So what did you do@SecretSoul ?
