The neighbours have been busy while we were away...shed/ pergola/ summerhouse?
We will obviously ask them later but am interested in what the overall height will be as its so close to our boundary

Any idea what this could be?

2.4 meters

Dareisayiseethesunshine · 04/05/2024 09:25

I suspect too high without pp and was deliberately done while you were away...

CranfordScones · 04/05/2024 09:44

It's an odd shape for an enclosed space with that pointed back corner. But the main frame looks like steel tubing which would be odd if it was just a pergola. So it looks like something substantial. And the noggins suggest it's going to have a solid roof.

As PP said, looks too tall for casual construction, so they would need planning permission.

My best guess would be some kind of garage/workshop.

Sillyjane · 04/05/2024 09:47

Looks like a pergola or gazebo. I don’t agree with the pps on it looks too tall, they have no idea from that image. 2,4 metres is 7.9 feet and generally these constructions they sell them primarily at the required height.

Sillyjane · 04/05/2024 09:47

How tall is the hedge op? Is it 6 foot?

Clearly not, she’s back and it’s not even close to finished.

Redlarge · 04/05/2024 09:51

Its a pergola

Seeline · 04/05/2024 09:56

I'd go for a pergola or some sort of aviary or chicken run.

PalomaColumbine · 04/05/2024 10:00

Is the concrete floor new?

Is that a standard lilac in your garden? I love it 😍

Nellieinthebarn · 04/05/2024 10:10

Might be one of those bar things, or for a hot tub.

Twiglets1 · 04/05/2024 10:41

Looks like a pergola where they intend to plant a wisteria or something pretty to grow over it

AuntieMarys · 04/05/2024 10:52

Hedge is about 7 feet 8
Measured height of structure....approx 8 '6

Won't be a bar as they don't drink. Can't see them.in a hot tub 😀

Very similar to our pergola. We put bamboo screening on the top.

Pixiedust1234 · 04/05/2024 10:58

I would have said pergola too from the shape, but it's very deep 🤔

Would it affect you or your pretty shrubs in any way, such as morning sun?

You went out and measured it? Like got a ladder went onto their grounds and measured it?

Rollercoaster1920 · 04/05/2024 11:05

You need to talk to them to ask what their plans are. The posts look to be right to the boundary, so how are they going to roof (normally a roof will extend beyond posts) and manage rainwater. They are not allowed to discharge rainwater onto someone else's property. That is classed as a nuisance and you can take them to court to stop it. Guttering needs to be inside their own property.

I think they are doing a pergoa with a solid roof and haven't thought about trespass or water management.

from the photo, It's easily measured from the OP's side of the fence.

I think it's a pergola.

MissyB1 · 04/05/2024 11:09

Pretty rude of them to do that without talking to you.

AuntieMarys · 04/05/2024 11:12

He's building it himself. Sadly he's out at the moment so dh can't ask.

Pergola, there is not much else that would be that shape, probably about 2.1m|2.2m high-pretty standard

Daisiesanddaffodils24 · 04/05/2024 11:18

Car port? Although a strange shape for that.

Diyextension · 04/05/2024 11:22

Looks like a pergola to me , it should be no more than 2.4 m high without pp. it needs to be measured from his side not yours as your side looks lower than his ? It doesn’t look 8’6” from the picture. Hard to tell though.

Definitely not. There's no side access to garden...they have to through the house to get in it
