Only 6 weeks notice of rent increase

We rent a house on a 12 month contract. This is our third year here. Every year there has been a rent increase. The increase has been significant but not completely out of hilt with the local market. One year it was 6% and another it was 9%. The rent is still quite good but they spend 0 money on maintaining the property.

We are thinking of moving areas. It will partly depend on how much the rent goes up on this house. We sent an email 12 weeks before renewal asking what the rent increase would be, so that we can decide whether to move.

Agent wrote back and said they can't tell us more than 6 weeks before the date for renewal incase the market changes.

Is this normal?

I'm in a similar situation and asked the agent (Yourmove who are mostly hopeless) to forward an email directly to the landlady to ask them not to increase the rent for 6 months. It worked. From the landlords perspective if you're good tenants, it's much more hassle to find new people, new inventory, new references, new deposit etc
