I’m going with:

Wind chimes -previous owner left them behind. Helps block out the annoying yapping of the dogs on either side
No spare room -l hate house guests so suits me perfectly!
Bath -every house l buy my mum reckons l need to remove the bath. I’m standing firm and leaving it

A sinister duckling is quite an achievement. Never get rid of them!

Strictly speaking, it's the way the duckling appears to have been squashed that's sinister, more than the duckling itself but, fear not - I am both lazy and a cheapskate, so the tiles are safe.

Runnerinthenight · 24/04/2024 21:38

God I would hate most of the aforementioned! I love having a downstairs loo, and a utility room. I'm not bothered by someone's knickers getting washed though, just the noise. I love my ensuite. I missed it so much when it was out of action until I could replace it all. I was also bereft when my last dishwasher died.

I actively got my hall and landing painted a pale grey, because it created the look I wanted, teamed with navy.

Artex ceilings 😌

Me too. I've had some skimmed but can't really be bothered with the rest. I'm hoping they'll come back in fashion soon Grin

Twotooto · 24/04/2024 21:41

Proud owner of a grey bedroom, I recently considered making it more colourful but I just love how calming and neutral it is. Grey gets a lot of bashing but it can look lovely when it’s used sparingly.

Topseyt123 · 24/04/2024 21:41

I have two sets of wind chimes. I love them. They hang just inside the backdoor and the patio doors, so only sound when those doors are open (not warm enough for that at the moment.

Freakonaleash · 24/04/2024 21:42

We have lots of laminate (nearly whole house). Two grey rooms. Three wall mounted TVs. Different rooms, obviously, not all lined up giving myself ideas though.
I have cushions with sequins all over, in the living room, DH hates these and says it looks like a brothel, to which I said how do you know?
Loving the pig tiles @WinkyTinky
Sinister duckling also great 🤣

Crispynoodle · 24/04/2024 21:45

We put our futility room in the double garage when we went more open plan in the kitchen diner

Crispynoodle · 24/04/2024 21:47

Oh! We have hardwood double glazing and live in NI where every estate agent suggests removing them for UPVC I can't understand it!

Toddlerteaplease · 24/04/2024 22:14

Magnolia walls. Goes with everything!

Thatglad · 24/04/2024 22:19

No tumble drier or dishwasher

Hi artex owners,
not trying to teach anyone to suck eggs here but
remember never to remove artex always skim ( like @Pastryface ) or overboard. Old artex contains asbestos.

Only if it dates back to the 80s, but definitely worth checking - you can get it tested. We were able to safely remove some because it turned out to be asbestos-free.

I love this thread.
Our bedroom carpet is at least 30 years old. We will replace it this year. Probably. I clean it with a carpet cleaner and steamer and it is a shoes-off zone. But apparently it will kill us.

SuperLois34 · 25/04/2024 07:40

Fake grass. Yes, I KNOW, but with a teeny garden which faces east so never gets any sun past midday, and two boys playing football constantly, real grass is not an option

Same here. I'm not a huge fan of putting it in for the sake of it - like on small front lawns that are only meant to be looked at. Would far prefer real then. But I get frustrated with the fake-grass haters who post beautiful pictures of their large, sunny lawns where only two people walk over it quietly and think everyone can have the same 😂

Try that in a North facing garden with lots of shady areas, crap clay soil, three boys playing football on it and a dog with zoomies in the afternoon. We've tried all the drainage options, overseeding, aeration and nothing works, it was still shit!

Lampslights · 25/04/2024 07:46

Surprised by the comment on the washing machine and knickers, our washing machine is integrated , so you can’t see it and I don’t do laundry when I’ve guests. Confused

Yeah, a friend replaced her natural lawn (actually mud & moss) for similar reasons, and the fake grass looks way better. Obviously fake is never going to look as good as a perfectly manicured lawn, but a lot of the anti-fake grass stuff is just snobbery.

RampantIvy · 25/04/2024 07:48

En suite bathroom. I don't get the MN hate for them. DH's bowels tend to be active long after I'm up in the morning and it has a window that he can open.

Carpets, except in the kitchen, dining room and downstairs loo. We don't wear shoes inside, don't have pets or small children and regularly clean the carpets.

A spare bedroom which I am in at the moment as DH has a rotten cold, and I need my sleep.

RampantIvy · 25/04/2024 07:49

but a lot of the anti-fake grass stuff is just snobbery.

No it isn't. It's an environmental disaster as it completely paving everywhere.

TeamPolin · 25/04/2024 07:51

Carpets!

Warmer and quieter than exposed floor.

Oh come off it. People replacing non-viable lawns with fake grass are no different, environmentally, from people paving a garden over. Where is the hate for the pavers? There is a massive element of snobbery, because most environmental activists are middle-class, and fake grass is seen as common.

LaWench · 25/04/2024 07:55

Conservatory. We'll replace pretty much everything in this house once we're finished but I like the Conservatory it has the sun first thing til noon so isn't unbearable all day.

😂 I want one!

I hate seeing gardens paved over just as much.

Coastalcreeksider · 25/04/2024 08:13

When I moved in to this house, nine years ago, I found a small windchime in the garden, a metal one which tinkles rather than booms out and I rarely ever hear it plus a meerkat garden ornament of three meerkats with "Gardening is simples" written underneath it.

I still have both, the meerkats live under the tree, the windchime is up near the house.

I just haven't had the heart to chuck them out or give them away. 😆

That isn't addressing my point, which wasn't about the aesthetics, or your personal view, but the level of protest that fake grass attracts, compared to paving.

Upper middle-class nepo kids don't have fake grass at Daddy's place in the Cotswolds, but they do have paved terraces. So environmental protests focus on fake grass.
