I’m going with:

Wind chimes -previous owner left them behind. Helps block out the annoying yapping of the dogs on either side
No spare room -l hate house guests so suits me perfectly!
Bath -every house l buy my mum reckons l need to remove the bath. I’m standing firm and leaving it

Ancient, dark wooden kitchen here too. I suspect it is the original one, with rather lovely brown tiles to match. I have finally managed to change the avocado loo and basin from the cloakroom (unrepairable, such a shame).

A hatch between kitchen and dinning room. Resisted removing it for over 33 years!! Had a neighbour telling me that it was old fashioned and woukd make my house difficult to sell!! I miss it so much! RIP hatch!!!

MFI Shreiber cream shaker kitchen from the 90s with the wall tiles we like of pigs cycling, washing and gardening. Original cast iron bath from the 30s.

No microwave for me either. I don't like the way things taste when they've been in there. Baked beans are so much better warmed up slowly on the hob with a bit of butter than nuked in the microwave.

Just started using microwave for vegetables when we were having a new kitchen fitted. It’s so easy, quick and taste the same to me.

Dark wood furniture

Our bathroom tiles are the originals from 1984 with a farmyard scene showing a pig asleep in a wooden bath and a small duck looking on, surrounded by bubbles. I'd love (and need) a new bathroom but could never face getting rid of the pig 😆

They sound lush. We have got some much dodgier duck tiles in the bathroom - they are supposed to look like illustrations in a children's book, I think, but they actually look as if someone has dropped a brick on a duckling from a height.

The rest of the bathroom's fine, though, so I CBA to change them.

Wincher · 24/04/2024 18:56

Fake grass. Yes, I KNOW, but with a teeny garden which faces east so never gets any sun past midday, and two boys playing football constantly, real grass is not an option. I guess we could have gone for rubber tiles or something but fake grass works for us.

No microwave.

I thought I was the only person left without one!

Non-outing photo?

Carpets in every room except kitchen and bathroom. I live in the UK where it gets cold and carpet adds a layer of warmth and insulation. Luckily I'm not paranoid about "dirt" in carpets.

A toilet brush. Only acceptable way to clean a loo in my opinion.

Cleaning cloths for the kitchen instead of paper towels. They get washed often - what's the issue?

Laundry powder in cardboard boxes instead of pods or liquid.

No anti-bac cleaning products. They are fuelling bacterial resistance which will no doubt wipe us all out before climate change.

Flannels.

Soft drinks sweetened with sugar instead of artificial sweeteners.

CrispsnDips · 24/04/2024 19:02

Artex ceilings 😌

Dewdilly · 24/04/2024 19:03

Carpets. Dark wood furniture. Curtains. Kitchen table, not an island. No en-suites. No downstairs toilet.

I don't think I can! They are notorious amongst all our family and friends! A bit like this, only more squashed and more sinister.

Same here! Nearly all of my friends are shocked and appalled by this 😂

I am moving to a house with a serving hatch. I might take the wall down but haven't decided yet.

RobinGet · 24/04/2024 20:35

Woodchip wallpaper in the some of the bedrooms. It must have been up since the 60s or 70s. I felt embarrassed by it for years but now I’m not bothered, and I know how hard it is to strip so it’s staying!

Not our house but I was in a house with a serving hatch today. Serious envy, they make so much sense!

RollaCola84 · 24/04/2024 20:43

Grey walls ! I think this puts me firmly into Mumsnet jail but I don't care. The house was painted by previous owners and they were full crushed grey velvet sofas, everything black and grey etc. I kept the grey walls but added colour in curtains, soft furnishings, art.

My walls, my house, I love it.

AgentSee · 24/04/2024 21:03

One small bathroom (climb into bath to use the shower) squeezed between four bedrooms,
a conservatory,
…and a breakfast bar which we continue to love.

It also has a lovely original built in cupboard that would have to come down if the wall was removed....lve always thought they were naff but l guess it's an original feature of the house.

Wrapunzel · 24/04/2024 21:16

The crappy cheap carpets in the bedrooms that were in when we bought the house nine years ago Blush something else always takes priority!

thesnailandthewhale · 24/04/2024 21:17

No air fryer

A sinister duckling is quite an achievement. Never get rid of them!

Wood burner in the front room - I love it

We have an old fashioned corner bath and I love that too, not for the looks, it's got the 70s moulded shell rims, but it's sooooo comfy in comparison to newer baths.

No spare room - I too hate having house guests

No front door - we have a side and back door, neither can be seen from the front of the house

Only one upstairs toilet/bathroom

Does the “no front door” cause any issues? I’ve just reconfigured my house to have the main entrance at the side and have been wondering if it will cause problems with people being able to find it! It’s quite set back from the front of the house

WoodBurningStov · 24/04/2024 21:32

@Floopdifloo I thought the no front door would cause issues but surprisingly it doesn’t. We put patio slabs across the front garden to direct people to the side of the house, where the other door is, which has worked really well. But the game changer was a ring doorbell, on the front of the house. That way it sounds in the house or phone when we have a delivery. I’ve yet to miss anything important and it’s stops the unnecessary is it’s by people you don’t want to see
