We are looking at the new builds at the 2 areas. I know new builds are not everyone but it’s our way of getting on the ladder.
Family of 4, oldest in reception

can I ask for thoughts on the two? Does anyone know what what the commute is really like,? We have to go into London 2 days a week.

Barming = slower trains into London than the other main stations, you can go to Maidstone which will be quicker but the parking isn't good, nor are the buses from the new builds in Barming to the station. Maidstone is so busy now and not really cheap especially when you factor in the cost of the travel.

Hermitage lane is a busy stretch of road plus I would be concerned about the amenities they are putting in as part of the new builds.

No idea on Uckfield!

Uckfield has 2 trains per hour during the morning but it only goes to London Bridge.

There isn’t so much parking near the station but you’re pretty much guaranteed a seat as it’s the start of the line.

The only frustrating I found with commuting from Uckfield is that more often than not, Southern trains are delayed and if they’re running really behind schedule, they’ll end the line at Crowborough and you’ll need to get a taxi back to Uckfield (as buses don’t run too late)

Besides the commute, Uckfield is a lovely town which has a lot going for it.

thank you @tsmith71 .
When we looked at the new home, we parked up and walked to the town centre and genuinely felt it’s lovely. Also didn’t feel out of place as a black family.

A reliable commute is my only concern. The 5:37pm train from London Bridge gets in just before 7pm, I’d hate for that to be delayed and end up at home much later.
