Social housing ranking

I've been on the social housing register since last July and have bid on at least 30 properties with no success. I've just put a bid on a property today which I would desperately love to be chosen for, my only problem is for the most part my ranking is always over 20. Has anyone ever been successful even though their ranking is over 20 on their bid?

Unfortunately, it’s unlikely you’d get it if you’re that far down the list. I’ve been bidding for years and I’ve been in the top 10 or even the top 5 on a few occasions, but haven’t yet been successful. I know how gutting it is when you don’t get a property you’d love, so I sympathise.

What priority band are you in? If you’re in a relatively low band you may need to wait until you get one based on waiting time, if your council offer those, although that obviously means being patient and could mean a long wait.

Its frustrating isn't it? I actually started a different thread, as until you replied I got no responses.

Yes, it's so frustrating. I haven't seen your other thread and can't find it - what's the title?

I found your other post in Chat. Don't listen to all the judgy Bs, they don't have a clue. I'm a single mum working part time and don't have a cat in hell's chance of ever buying a property, so I'm currently in private rental and praying that I'm lucky enough to no1 on the list for a council property soon. Perhaps private rent for now but keep your name on the council list to build up waiting time. Good luck with everything.

Have you registered with all the local HAs? Directly with them - not just on the general 'council list'?
