Ours is looking cracked and would like to update it - has anyone done this? Would it be a disaster to do ourselves?

Something like this, although our house isn't as nice!

Plinth? Get some masonary paint and a steady hand and DIY.

It's usually done in a bitumen paint in a misguided attempt at preventing water ingress. Stripping the paint that's there would do your house more good than re-painting it.

I've recently put an extra coat on mine using an exterior paint designed for stone. It wasn't hard at all - no special skills required. It looks fine.
