Did you end up living in an area you thought you would?

Just thinking about my future and wondering where I might end up living.

My parents never expected to live in places they did when they were younger. My parents were both born in rural Derbyshire and then moved to London, then on to Bangkok for a decade before retiring to Devon. My mum says only London was a planned move and every other one sort of just happened.

I've lived all over the country as an adult but settled a few years ago in a rural area around 30 miles from where I grew up. We visited here a lot when I was a child and I always wanted to live here. About to move house but only to the next village!

Yes! Central London. What I wanted from childhood. Have never wavered though sometimes I'd like a bigger house / garden.

No. I grew up in London, went to school right in the centre. Lived there till I was 30 and never, every thought that I would ever be happy anywhere else.

And yet here I am, 60 miles away by the seaside.

And all because of a man I am not even with any more!

No. My parents have spent their entire lives within five miles of their birthplaces, and have never had a passport. I grew up expecting to leave school at 15 and stay local like the rest of the family. Instead I went to university then abroad to graduate school, lived in different parts of the world for nearly 30 years, and now live in an ‘old money’ area of my home city my parents still think is ‘too good for the likes of us’ (to the point where I’ve overheard them lying about where I live to their neighbours in case people think they’re getting above themselves.)

No.

I moved from my hometown to a city when I was 18 (for uni) me and dh lived in Liverpool for a few years, London for 10 years, a stint in Cornwall then Manchester before we ended up moving back to my hometown when I was pregnant with dc no2 & bought a house. We are settling in quite nicely!

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with my hometown, it’s very pretty, near the sea, near the countryside, great place for kids to grow up - I just never envisioned we’d end up moving back here.

I thought we’d end up on the outskirts of a city, but I felt the strong call of the sea telling me to come back 🤣

I moved 4 years ago to an region I didn’t even know existed let alone where it was before I looked at the house and a part of the country two years before moving here I had absolutely no interest in and definitely didn’t think I’d ever move too. The clue is in the user name. I love it here, and consider it my home and in fact after many moves I feel Ive finally come home, nothing would persuade me to move back across the boarder now. In fact on the increasingly rare occasions I do cross it I feel bereft. 🙃
