How do I install this island?

How do I install this island?

I'm adding it to a kitchen that already has engineered wood flooring.

The builder suggested cutting a smaller rectangle than the size of the island out so the legs of the cabinets internally sit on the concrete subfloor. So in effect the island weight would sit on the legs and the edges of the island would be a mm off the floor but no weight on.

This way the edge of the island wouldn't need trim.

I think this would still allow for expansion gaps?

However the end piece would directly sit on the floor still.

I’ve had an island like this added to an existing kitchen before and it just sat on top of a tiled floor- no issues with the weight , and it was a pretty large size with a heavy quartz counter top. Why does your builder want to cut into your floor?

I would just put it on the floor - what if you want to move it for some reason in future and youve cut a hole in the floor?

Agree it should just sit on top. Why on earth would you cut the floor? I assume there’s no hob/sink etc in yours otherwise the floor would have to come out unless the works for them were already in place. That one in the picture appears to have a hob in it.

Just sit it on top of the floor? Unless your builder knows your floor wasn't installed correctly or something.
