Rent dilemma, should we save or should we twist?

Currently living in a nice one bedroom. It's getting quite dated and tired. We will be buying a flat somewhere in the long term but not for another 3-4 years. We could probably scrape together a deposit right now but we don't want to as it would mean we'd have no money otherwise.

Dp has seen a gorgeous one bedroom apartment that is a lot more expensive than our current place. It would be roughly £10k a year extra. It's not the kind of place we'd ever buy due to service charges et cetera.

We don't know where our careers are going yet (we are mid 20s) but it's quite possible/likely that within 2-3 years that our income will be around 300-400k as we are both lawyers.

So looking for advice for people who have been through this. Is it better to stick renting in a small but cheap apartment or twist and go for the nicer one and enjoy life a bit more.
