Moving costs?

If you have recently moved long distance (3-4 hours away), approximately how much were your removal costs?

I have looked online and tried to get some approximate quotes but all the companies want to do site visits etc first and I am not ready for that - just need to know to factor it in to our budget for finding a new place.

we have a 4 bed semi with all the usual stuff from a family of 4. So we will be needing proper movers rather than just a man and van.

just trying to get a ball park figure. TIA.

We're moving 60-ish miles away, from a 6 bed end terrace to a 4 bed semi, but the floor space is roughly the same square metres. The best quote I've received is £2,800 for the full pack and removal service, breaking down beds and putting them up again too. Other quotes were in the 4-5k region, so a huge difference.

3-4hrs you will possibly be looking at 2-days.
We moved 1.5hrs away and most quotes were 1-day but the big boys (Pickfords, Britannia etc) wanted to do it over 2-days (and quoted accordingly).

For our chosen company (1-day, 2x7.5t trucks, a Luton van and 7-men) was about £1.2k.

You can't beat a physical survey, some want to do it by video but we insisted that everyone came and had a proper look.

We moved 120 miles last summer. Our best quote was about 2.5k for our 3 bed semi. We packed ourselves though and provided all packing materials, we also moved into storage (£60/week) for 3 weeks so we were didn't have to worry about getting everything out quickly and into the next house same day. Don't know if that made a difference?

We did quotes with 3 companies and there was no heavy sales tactics, get someone out and explain you'll be in touch when you have dates and they'll not harass you, in my experience!

We're moving at the moment and doing it ourselves. 140 per month for a large storage container and 60 a day to rent a van. We rented a big van for one day a couple weeks ago and moved anything we can manage without before the move and we'll rent it again for 2-3 more days when we move out. Probably costing around 400-500. We're only moving 1.5 hours away though and got a storage locker around the half way point.

Recently moved this far, but only from a 1 bed flat- so it all fit in a Luton van. We ended up using a man and van who charged £1k, but the proper companies who quoted all wanted between £2-5k depending on the bells and whistles (a lot of the big ones eg Pickford wanted to do it over two days).

Our guys were fine but definitely no frills- and we almost didnt fit everything in their van so I guess would be too small for you.
