How to be happy with your house when you “can afford” more?

Dh and I rent a nice one bedroom flat, it’s a decent size, but not perfect. The main thing is that it’s cheap and in a fantastic location. The rent is cheaper than what the interest alone on a mortgage would be.

We can afford to spend a lot more on rent but would rather save the money for the future. This is the sensible option. But every couple weeks I start getting the urge to move to a nicer or bigger flat even though it wouldn’t be sensible.

So how do you be happy with your home when you know you could afford more

We’re happy in our house even though we can afford more. We do have a mortgage though. I would avoid renting as you make money on houses almost all the time. We prioritise experiences above bigger homes. The experiences we have as a family are priceless to us and way better than living in a bigger house but having no spare money to do things. We’re also pretty good at not comparing ourselves to others. What we have is enough

You think about what you’re saving for.

Well you CAN'T afford to move and meet your savings goals in the same time frame as you can if you stay put.

Couldn’t have put it better!

It's hard OP. Sorry not much advice from me but I'm in the same position.
I live in a cheap ish house, close to work/school/family but I am so desperate and ready to move to a nicer house in a better area too.
My DH however is not willing to move because he likes the cheap living and saving the rest of his money. He saves around 3/4 of his salary. We can definitely afford better and it's so frustrating. I cannot afford to do it alone.
I've lost passion for my home and garden, I would usually be decorating and planting flowers, but honestly I cba.
