Please may I ask approximate costs for a replacement oil fired boiler for a 4 bed house?
Are oil combi boilers ok or should I specify a separate mega flow or immersion heater too ?

We've a 3-bed semi and were having 'trouble' with our old oil combi, the plumber suggested a couple of grand for a new one in the SW. Obviously it depends on the number of rads and so size of boiler needed.

I had an oil boiler installed 3 years ago and total cost was about £3k from memory.
We have a 4 bed house with 3 bathrooms and from my research a combi was out the question given the potential requirement for hot water was too much for a combi

Our first oil boiler lasted 30 years. We replaced it with a standard one rather than combi because we wanted to keep a tank an immersionheater. We have a stove with a back boiler and solar panels which obviously give free electricity.
If I could have mains gas I would choose that, otherwise the boiler is the same

There are some good grants around if you would consider replacing it with a heat pump? The grant brings heat pump installation to a cost on par with oil boiler replacement. Otherwise I’d expect to pay north of £2k here in the SE.

Worth noting that if your boiler needs replacing because it may be 15 years old then your oil tank may also need replacing and if not compliant with current building regulations may need to be moved. My grant oil boiler needs replacing as does the oil tank and the bill is going to be around 3000 pounds for the boiler alone and then a new oil tank is about 5000 pounds In a new location. Total bill for new boiler and relocation of tank is about £8000. 24-36kwh, Using existing radiators and hot water tank.
