Hi,

We are FTB and are really keen to speak to someone that lives on the corbett estate or surrounding area. You input would be so valuable. Please DM me :)

Hey 👋

I don't live on the Corbett Estate, but I do live in Catford, near the Broadway. Will that do? 😆

We're moving to the Corbett Estate in a month or so (and currently live 10 mins away from it, plus our best friends live there so we're always there!). We're so excited about moving to the estate - great sense of community and wonderful for young families (we have a two year old and another due in July). Corbett Library, Mountsfield Park, Abbotshall Healthy Lifestyle Centre - all have loads going on! I can't figure out how to DM but wanted to give it my vote 😊

I lived there for a long time and my DC went to Torridon school. They are lovely spacious houses and we were happy living there.

We live very nearby bit the estate itself is a little bit beyond our budget so where we are is the next best thing!

The only thing to be aware of is that, depending on where on the estate you can be quite a long way from amenities. There aren't any pubs, or cafes etc, just one small run of shops opposite the doctor's surgery. But if you are closer to the South Circular you can easily get to Catford, Hither Green and the park.

That being said if I could afford it I'd move the Corbett in a heartbeat!

Really nice area for families and some beautiful houses. You are a bit of a walk from the nearest station but once you get to Hither Green there are loads of trains up to central London so it's super convenient.
There are lots of baby and toddler groups in the neighborhood and you will never be short of things to do with younger kids. I used to go to some myself as I don't live in the Corbett Estate but am nearby.
My only reservation above the area is that I felt like some of the mum groups were a bit cliquey and I always felt like my face didn't fit, and that sort of put me off the place. DH and I did seriously consider moving there but we've gone for a different area. Corbett has a vibe of being all friendly and inclusive....but only if you are the "right" kind of person. if you are fairly left-leaning and work in the arts, charities, media, anything environment related etc, wear Lucy and Yak dungarees and have a husband that earns well you will be very welcome

The location is why we like it so much. The connections from HG and even Catford Bridge are very good. I had to google Lucy and Jak just now reading your post so not sure I will fit in.. 😂

This made me laugh - I actually do own a pair of Lucy and Yak dungarees, am left-leaning and work in the media - unfortunately my husband earns peanuts as a Train Guard so hopefully I won't be disqualified from the Corbett Cliques on that basis!

Olinguita · 26/03/2024 19:04

@squidlady @amismon I'm probably being really unfair to the area and judging it on the basis of one really cliquey baby group I attended .. It was one of the more awkward experiences of my mat leave but was run by someone who posts heavily on social media about being kind and supporting new mums so the social rejection really came as a shock 😂 I also work in media but it seemed it was the "wrong" type of media for that gang (I do skew left in terms of politics though)

On the plus side though - check out Wanderlust cafe on the Hither Green side of the estate, absolutely brilliant spot.

The Lewisham People's Day free festival in Mountsfield Park is legendary, and I think it's running again this year after a hiatus. Definitely find out when it is and mark your calendar!

Singalong Sally's music classes for tots are great, I think she still runs one in the Corbett Estate. She is a TV actress and is very entertaining, I think I actually enjoyed the class more than my toddler did!

LaurieFairyCake · 26/03/2024 19:14

Wanderlust been shut for ages unfortunately but I like Milk on Manor parade in Hither Green

Olinguita · 26/03/2024 19:28

@LaurieFairyCake oh no! I'm really sorry to hear that, used to love going there during mat leave. I agree that Milk is really nice though
