Social Housing - Direct Offer/Affordability Check

user666555 · 24/03/2024 12:52

Hello,

Has anyone been offered a direct offer through their council for social housing and had an affordability check? How does the process work and how long did it take?

Thanks

Did you find out? Would love to know x

@GoldSheep it took around 2ish days and it was just to see that we have enough money to factor in rent as a priority bill. They don't discriminate against bad credit, credit cards or if you have existing debt. It's literally just to say they've given you a place that you can afford

Fingers crossed. I had my affordability check done yesterday and she said there is a slight deficit but it looks good overall from her end and said that her manager has to sign it off first and then come back to me. I’m going to view it on Monday. 😳

@GoldSheep good luck! I was worried sick as I don't have the best of finances currently. However, the guy doing the viewing mentioned that he's never not had anyone be accepted. Usually it's just a tick box check to ensure that they've offered you a place that you have the means to pay for. He made us feel really reassured that we'd be fine. I'm sure it'll work out for you. Please update as I'm invested haha x

@user666555 thank you, I will defo keep you posted, thing is had it of been general social housing rent I wouldn’t of been too worried however although it’s through housing association with it being a new build it’s what they class as affordable rent which is still £1500pm so a bit anxious for the outcome but we’ll see what will be will be

@GoldSheep oh wow. How did it go? How does that work? How many bedrooms is it? I didn't know housing associations charge that much for rent either. I hope it's worked out for you
